Not all nuts are the same. The way food is processed has a huge impact on your health and body fat levels, as well as how your body reacts to food.
In terms of nutrition, we now face a real dilemma: whether it should be low-carb, low-fat, protein, vegan or vegetarian and which of these is good for us. The truth is that all this information is wrong. What really matters is the level of food processing. Even our ancestors ate unprocessed, natural foods. The health benefits are the same all over the world and across cultures as long as the food is prepared from unprocessed, natural products. Whether your diet is high in protein, high in fat or high in carbohydrates is of secondary importance.
One fact remains the same: If you eat more calories than you need, you will gain weight. Excess calories are immediately stored as fat. This has been going on since the days when people didn’t have easy access to food. Thus, the body stores up for more difficult times to ensure its existence. That’s why some people feel an acute need to eat a lot when there is food available. Others do not.
Today, however, food is always available and in large quantities. Your body has not yet been able to adapt to these rapid agricultural and technological advances: it still wants to eat when food is plentiful and it stores fat. Since we no longer need to hunt, we no longer burn calories to get food. We just sit on the sofa and dial a pizza delivery service.
Unfortunately, with the development of the food industry, a new type of food has arrived on your plate: highly processed foods, with which your body quickly accumulates fat and gains unhealthy weight.
The industry wants to do something for your health and slimness and offers ready-made low-calorie products. Take a look at the ingredients on the back (small tip, if there are more than five and they are hard to pronounce, put that product away straight away): many of these products contain lots of preservatives, processed flour, artificial flavour enhancers and unhealthy fats.
The supposed benefit of saving time is associated with an increased risk of diseases such as diabetes, nervousness, depression, irritable bowel syndrome, cancer, obesity and so on. Because these foods cause inflammation in your body and affect the release of insulin, you’ll accumulate more fat.
So forget the fast and ready meals! The skimmed version is also high in sugar and starchy carbohydrates. These supposedly ‘healthy foods’ are not accepted by your body as such! It only causes inflammation and you lose precious years of your life. Highly processed foods also affect your metabolism, making it harder to burn fat.
If you want to opt for healthy, unprocessed and light foods, take an apple, a handful of unprocessed nuts, fresh, sliced vegetable sticks or organic meat, for example. Go back to the diet of your ancestors and you can have a slim and healthy body.
