    GINGER, PUMPKIN SEEDS & CO. – FIND OUT WHAT THEY CAN REALLY DO!

    “Let food be your medicine and medicine be your food”.

    There is so much truth in this quote from Hippocrates. It’s clear that food contains nutrients, but where and what kind of nutrients can be found? And what’s up with this superfood? In this article, we’ll show you how ordinary foods can supply nutritional supplements and what’s really in pumpkin seeds, ginger and other foods.

    Pumpkin seeds

    They’re great as a dressing for salads or cottage cheese. These tasty little versatile seeds are particularly rich in protein (25g per 100g) and are a good source of fibre-rich fat. They are also rich in magnesium, iron, zinc and full of antioxidants.

    Disclaimer: Antioxidants protect your body from the harms of oxidants, and free radicals. Free radicals react with organic substances such as fatty acids, proteins or DNA, and thus can cause disease and accelerate the aging process.

    Pomegranate seeds

    Great with a salad or as a snack. Pomegranate kernels are full of antioxidants and have anti-inflammatory properties that can reduce chronic inflammation, heart disease and even obesity. The small, sour kernels are an excellent source of vitamin C – 7mg per 100g.

    Persimmon

    This healthy snack is rich in fibre and high in magnesium, potassium and phosphorus. The fruit is also high in vitamin A and thus protects your cells, helps your digestion and takes your immune system to the next level.

    Kale

    This spicy cabbage is either loved or hated. If you haven’t loved it yet, think again. Because it’s high in vitamin C (210mg to 200g!), vitamins A and K, it’s rich in antioxidants and promotes hematopoiesis because of its high iron content.

    Tip for pregnant women: Cabbage is an excellent source of folic acid (375 micrograms in 200g), which has particular benefits for the development of a healthy baby.

    Curcuma

    This orange tuber you know from the labels on the spice shelves. It has a particularly anti-inflammatory effect against all diseases and is rich in antioxidants, minerals and vitamins. Spices are a miracle weapon. That’s because turmeric not only helps fight bacteria and viruses of all kinds, but also aids proper digestion, improves the immune system and metabolism. This means that mild complaints such as gas or feeling full after a meal can be alleviated or avoided with turmeric (as a spice).

    A little tip: the active ingredients of curcumin, the most active ingredient in turmeric, are better absorbed into the bloodstream if they come with black pepper.

    Cinnamon

    When boring oatmeal suddenly turns into a spicy-sweet miracle, it’s cinnamon all over again!

    Cinnamon is rich in antioxidants and especially in fibre – 24g per 100g – which helps stimulate digestion. Thanks to its anti-inflammatory effect, cinnamon lowers blood pressure and above all keeps blood sugar levels stable.

    Ginger

    Ginger is an insanely spicy indispensable helper! Ideal against colds, indigestion and nausea. The reason is that ginger oil works in the same way as aspirin. It protects the heart thanks to its effect of improving blood circulation, thus improving blood flow.

    Of course, it has anti-inflammatory properties, is high in vitamin C and is the purest nutritional bomb with iron, calcium, potassium, magnesium and phosphorus.

    Isn’t it fantastic what our food actually has to offer when you look closely? If you suffer from certain illnesses and take medication, we recommend that you talk to your doctor about taking these or similar superfoods. Because of their strong effect on your metabolism, they may interfere with other medications.
